The laying of the first stone of what will soon be The Ethnic Market of La Paz was carried out by Mayor Milena Paola Quiroga Romero.
It is expected to conclude on February 2, 2025, coinciding with Candlemas Day, which is a very traditional holiday in Mexico.
Ethnic markets represent the origin of markets in Mexico, which have existed for hundreds of years. And, obviously, they were still active until not long ago when the invention of the supermarket took place.
Organic markets as we know them today are part of a socio-commercial exchange that is not always in the same place and that changes location depending on the season.
Unlike these, the Ethnic Market will have a location constructed especially for it. It will also have 15 food establishments and shops selling artisanal products, with everything necessary to serve the public who comes to it and will provide a place for ethnic communities to share their traditions, dishes and culture.
Amenities include bathrooms, warehouses, offices, public services such as ramps for people with disabilities, banquet space and parking, as well as an electrical network, lighting, drainage and drinking water to ensure comfort and accessibility.
The exterior design will include trim, wooden benches, trash cans, bicycle parking, signage and a decorative metal gate. In addition, the mayor confirmed that the market will have specific containers to facilitate recycling and waste collection.
The ethnic market is emerging as a meeting point and cultural exchange where the community will be able to enjoy a wide variety of products, as well as shows and events organized by the communities themselves. An amphitheater intended for cultural events will include dressing rooms for participants.
This is a great opportunity to share the roots of Mexico with the tourists.
