The Whales Are Here! The Whales Are Here!

BY DAVID FLORES

A few humpback whales have been seen in Migriño, on the northern part of Cabo San Lucas, and others near the arch in front of the Grand Solmar resort. Humpback whales live throughout the world’s major oceans, but these are born in Southern Baja and return to the cold waters of Alaska in the first three months of each year. They can travel great distances during their seasonal migration, with some migrating 5,000 miles between high-latitude summer feeding grounds and winter mating and calving areas in tropical waters. They are here to mate and give birth to their calves.
