Last weekend the new sports and recreational park of the La Playa community in San Jose del Cabo was finally inaugurated.
The ceremony was attended by several government officials, including the new Los Cabos Major Christian Agundez, members of the Mexican Olympic Committee, Puerto Los Cabos representatives and the public, for the most part residents and athletes of the surrounding communities of El Rincon de la Playa, La Choya, Las Animas Bajas and Altas and San Vicente.

This park is a clear example of the collaboration between the private and public sectors. The facilities were handed over to the local authorities by Mr. Santiago Sanchez Navarro, Puerto Los Cabos General President and Director of Pablo’s Foundation. Pablo was the youngest son of the Sanchez Navarro Family who opened El Ganzo Hotel and founded the El Ganzo Community Center also located in La Playita. PLC donated the land and financed the construction estimated at around 2.5M USD. ”The vision for this project began a couple of years ago and now it is a reality. It will benefit many local families” Santiago said.
What was previously an empty dirt field where children’s baseball teams played has now become a beautiful and modern sports park designed by two renowned Mexican architects Ignacio Urquiza and Héctor Barroso It harmonicallycombines functionality and sustainability, aligning with the values of modern environmental conservation. It offers first-class facilities with electricity, running water and sewer system. It boasts a perimeter fence, a large parking lot, a synthetic grass children’s baseball field with benches and shade, an adult dirt baseball field, a professional soccer field (that could be converted into two smaller fields), connecting walking trails with native vegetation, bathrooms and a multifunctional central esplanade for events and other recreational activities.
The operation and maintenance are by Puerto Los Cabos and the Municipal Sports Institute (INDEM), under a joint management model which will guarantee a safe, accessible and optimally maintained space for all. Pablo’s Foundation and Puerto Los Cabos highlighted that the park will promote sports activities such as soccer, children’s baseball and hiking, in addition to offering a multifunctional space for community events. it will also benefit local teams such as “Los Ostioneritos de La Playa” (The Little Oysters) who will enjoy the first children’s baseball field in all Los Cabos. They hope that this sports center also becomes a meeting point for the community to come, interact and enjoy.
