Los Cabos has been bustling, not with tourists this time, but with protesters. Recently, more than two demonstrations disrupted traffic significantly. At the Fonatur roundabout in San Jose, and outside the RIU resorts, protesters took to the streets. This led to a logistical nightmare as dozens of tourists missed their flights due to the gridlock.
The main squabble at the RIU involved taxi drivers who are up in arms against tour operators. Their bone of contention? They accuse these operators of illegally transporting tourists without prior reservations. Meanwhile, a different kind of protest unfolded at the Fonatur roundabout—teachers demanding overdue bonuses. They’re owed payments once every five years, and they’re not subtle about their grievances. The state government’s attempt to appease them with a promise to pay 50% now and the remainder by 2026 hasn’t smoothed things over. The educators are standing firm, unwilling to back down.
