As a sailor, I have had the privilege of exploring our beautiful Baja Peninsula by water. Baja has been a take-off point or a hub for private yachts owned by the rich and famous and a few liveaboards focused mostly on pelagic life scuba diving in the faraway islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Los Cabos has also been a port dock visited by several international cruise lines for many years. So far, Baja’s sea exploration has been the luxury of scientific vessels like National Geographic’s, private sailboats and luxury yachts such as Spielberg’s Seven Seas, a 282-foot superyacht or Mr. Google’s 193-foot Senses. I have seen them and others cruising the pristine waters of the Sea of Cortez and its remote islands. More than two decades ago, Uncruise Adventures started out with a single yacht cruising the coast of Alaska, but their fleet has grown to nine small expedition boats in seven different locations: Hawaii, Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, Guatemala, Galapagos and the Pacific Northwest and now Mexico.
From January to June, UA Safari Voyager, a 66 passenger discrete warm-waters ship, will be cruising along the Sea of Cortez hopping from island to island and along the coast. The Safari Voyager’s features are EZ Dock kayak launch platform; bow-mounted underwater camera; kayaks, paddleboards, inflatable skiffs, hiking poles, snorkel gear; fitness equipment and yoga mats; DVD and book library. In-cabin or suite (yes a suite) features are a TV/DVD player, hairdryer, bathrobes, conditioning shampoo, body wash, and reusable water bottles. Are you excited yet?
What to expect from this expedition? Expect the unexpected. An incredible team will offer personable service and are eager to take care of your every need from start to finish. Your adventure will start at the San Jose Airport where you will be picked up in a shuttle to La Paz where the embarking takes place. This is followed by seven nights of delicious, locally sourced, sustainable foods. You will be sleeping in ultra-comfort and venture into the wilderness of this magical Baja Sur with like-minded travelers.
You will have the chance to enjoy the great outdoors as very few others have. Swim or snorkel nose to nose with sea lions or whales sharks, hike a canyon or ride a mule in an arroyo guided by a native, spot Mobula rays or a pod of dolphins from the deck, kayak along the shores looking for hummingbirds, cormorants, Great Blue Herons or the rare Blue- and Red-footed boobies, or explore rugged shores by skiff or paddleboard. You can take your pick or you can do it all.
