The Los Cabos Municipal Health Institute is conducting fumigation operations in Vista Hermosa and El Zacatal this week as part of the municipality’s ongoing effort to control dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Fumigation crews will work in Vista Hermosa on September 9 and 10, then move to El Zacatal on September 11. Institute Director Juan Carlos Costich Pérez said the schedule is designed to reach neighborhoods before mosquito populations expand.
What Residents Should Do
Officials are asking residents to keep doors and windows open during fumigation passes so treatment reaches indoor spaces where adult mosquitoes rest. The fumigation targets adult mosquitoes already present, reducing their ability to breed and transmit disease.
The spray is part of a broader citywide fumigation campaign that rotates through Los Cabos neighborhoods on a regular schedule. Crews use truck-mounted equipment to disperse insecticide during early morning or evening hours when mosquitoes are most active.
Prevention at Home
Municipal authorities say fumigation alone won’t eliminate dengue risk. Residents should remove standing water from buckets, planters, tarps, tires and other containers where mosquitoes lay eggs. Keeping yards clear of debris and covering water storage tanks also helps prevent breeding sites.
Health officials have been training staff across Baja California Sur to identify and respond to dengue cases. The disease causes high fever, severe headache, joint pain and sometimes internal bleeding. Early medical attention improves outcomes, especially for children and older adults.
Residents in Vista Hermosa and El Zacatal who will be away during fumigation hours can contact the Municipal Health Institute to request a follow-up visit. The institute publishes updated fumigation schedules on the Los Cabos government website.
