If you’re in La Paz, there’s no need to worry. The local government has introduced a comprehensive bilingual traffic guide to help visitors drive safely and confidently.
Five hundred new bilingual traffic cards, called Tarjetón Vial para Turistas, have been distributed to rental agencies throughout La Paz. These cards aim to enhance tourist safety and reduce the risk of corruption.
The cards include a QR code for easy mobile access and are available in both English and Spanish. They provide key information about local traffic regulations and allow tourists to file traffic tickets remotely.
Additional features include safety recommendations, instructions for handling traffic violations, and tips on identifying whether an officer’s body camera is active, signaled by the simultaneous red and green lights.
According to the Director of Municipal Security and Traffic of La Paz, the cards also outline the official protocol officers must follow during a road stop, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The program launched in March 2023, initially distributing cards with every vehicle from registered rental companies in La Paz. However, since these vehicles often travel across municipalities, an additional 500 cards were printed to ensure ongoing availability.
