Baby Sea Lion Was in Trouble!

Sadly, this is part of their everyday life

It was recently reported that a puppy had a hook stuck in its snout near the Lovers Beach. Those who found it immediately notified PROFEPA (Federal Authority for Environmental Protection) and other animal rescue organizations, who came to its aid. Rescuers were able to get the animal on to one of the boats, where it was given the necessary treatment for its release.

Sea lions can become entangled in fishing gear, including hooks, ropes, and other debris, causing injury or death.

Sometimes, fishing lures and hooks are visible in the mouths of sea lions.

Biologists recommend that mariners cut any loop in rope or banding material to prevent injury to marine mammals.

You can help by securing garbage when at sea or on the coast, cleaning up trash you find on the beach that could wash into the ocean, and cutting any loops that you are discarding.
