Business association gets the government involved
The Los Cabos Business Association presented the “Camina Cabo” (Walk around Cabo) project, an initiative that seeks to create pedestrian zones and provide new experiences for locals and visitors. According to Gustavo Laborde, president of the organization, this proposal is expected to increase sales at downtown businesses by 30% and generate 15% more jobs.
The main goal is to bring back tourism and commercial activity in downtown Cabo San Lucas as it is getting lost to All Inclusive resorts.
The plan includes establishing spaces where tables and chairs will be positioned on sidewalks, without affecting pedestrian traffic, to encourage recreation and promote a new dynamic in the tourist area.
The project is being developed in response to the economic losses of up to 50% reported by local businesses between the last quarter of 2023 and the end of 2024.
Faced with this situation, business owners are seeking to restore the city’s downtown appeal and transform it into a more friendly and active space for tourism. “Camina Cabo” project is planned to begin in less than three months and is intended to enhance economic growth in downtown Cabo San Lucas and allow tourists to walk through the area.
