Internet Users Increase in Mexico

40 million more in ten years

According to the 2024 ENDUTIH (National Survey on Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Households), the states with the highest percentage of connected population are: Mexico City, 84.4%, Sonora, 84.4%, and Nuevo León, 83.7%.

In contrast, the states with the lowest access are Guerrero: 58.9%, Oaxaca: 55.5%, and Chiapas: 50.7%.

The average daily usage is 4.4 hours. The most active are young people aged 18 to 24, with 5.7 hours per day, followed by the 25 to 34 age group with 5.6 hours.

The main connection locations are home, work, someone else’s house, school, public places, and “anywhere.”

Regarding the devices used, the smartphone leads the way (97.2%), followed by the smart TV (43.6%), the computer (35.9%), and the video game console (8.1%).

Susana Pérez, the spokeswoman for INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography), highlighted the increase in the use of smart TVs, rising from 25.7% in 2021 to 43.6% in 2024.

Mexicans’ use of the internet is “primarily for communication, with 93% of users reporting this as their use. Social media use is 90.4%, entertainment 89%, information research 88.2%, and training and education 81.3%.

There are now 100 million internet users in Mexico, representing 83.1% of the population.
