That makes 150 total so far this year
The Wheelchair Foundation, together with the Club Rotario de Cabo San Lucas, is donating 100 wheelchairs to individuals with disabilities in Cabo San Lucas. The donation event will take place today, April 19th, at the Centro de Inclusión y Desarrollo (CID) in the Jacarandas neighborhood.
The Wheelchair Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides free wheelchairs to children, teens, and adults in need. They focus on providing mobility to individuals in developing countries, recognizing that a wheelchair is often an unaffordable item in those areas.
Ana María Acosta, an active member of the Cabo San Lucas del Mar Club, explained that the process of finding people who need this support is through a call to other foundations and centers; each person is then interviewed to determine their physical needs and socioeconomic status.
“Being in partnership with other clubs or foundations makes us more successful. By joining with more sponsors, we can achieve more. We now also have sponsors from Cabo San Lucas who financed the transport of the chairs from the United States to Los Cabos,” Morales explained. So far, there are 150 chairs.
He added that this strategy has allowed them to see that the need in Cabo San Lucas for people with disabilities or an illness that prevents them from moving freely is still very high. This includes older adults, but also young people and minors.
“There is a great need because the economic situation is difficult, and sometimes, unfortunately, buying a wheelchair is not a priority.”
The invitation is open to the public to come to the club to learn about these initiatives and join the cause.
