La Paz basked in the spirit of giving and support as locals and expats rallied for the Astra Foundation at their last fundraiser organized by the Amigas of Astra. The community came together to celebrate and support the cherished local non-profit organization. The latter who’s been involved in La Paz and across Baja for almost a decade, aims to provide sustainable, comprehensive healthcare services for underserved populations in Baja California Sur.

The sold-out event was a loud and clear commitment from the La Paz community towards The Astra Foundations’s mission, which is to provide preventive and curative health services to the most vulnerable populations: children, at-risk youth, mothers, the chronically ill, and the elderly.

The Astra Foundation’s presence in our community embodies the very essence of impactful, on-the-ground change. With their dedicated team of healthcare professionals, and through their diverse collaborations with other organizations, their team is bridging the healthcare gap for the most vulnerable members of our community through free medical clinics, offering specialized care for both physical and mental health as well as learning opportunities on crucial health topics such as the importance of a balanced diet or the dangers of consuming too much sugar.

Local businesses shared their solidarity through gift certificates and vouchers donated to the silent auction, and the evening was filled with soulful melodies from La Paz’s musicians, a blend of local and expat talent generously offering their time. The music, shifting genre and style with each new artist, was a fun reminder of how diverse this city is.

Generosity can be expressed in many forms. For this event, some offered their time, others their financial resources or their talent, and gift vouchers in the case of local businesses, showcasing different expressions of solidarity. Symbolically, it is a beautiful testament that our collective belief in an organization’s work can become a conduit for our community’s generosity.
