Gringos Charged for a Dead Sea Turtle

A couple of foreigners’ dogs either escaped to the beach in Pescadero or were let loose, resulting in the tragic killing of a sea turtle, which is a protected species. Following reports from sea turtle protection groups, the Navy, Federal Zone personnel, and state police managed to track down the owners and issued them a fine of US $545.

Considering the seriousness of the offense, this is quite lenient since penalties for killing a sea turtle can go up to US $30,000 and/or 9 years in prison.

Authorities are now investigating a second similar incident in the same area. So, here’s a gentle reminder to all: keep your dogs on a leash, especially near the beach where wildlife is trying to survive. Let’s protect these beautiful creatures!
