Los Cabos will host the first canine race in Baja California history on Sunday, Feb. 22, in Cabo San Lucas at Playa Coral Negro (La Empacadora), near the Navy base and Grand Solmar Resort, and on Sunday, March 1, in San José del Cabo, starting in front of the INDEM offices. Both events will run from 7 a.m. to noon.
The recreational race, held during the Sunday morning Ciclovía street closures, aims to bring families and pets together in a safe, organized setting open to public participation.
Participants may compete in categories by breed size: small, medium and large. No prior experience is required. Registration requires an in-kind donation of dog food or cleaning supplies. To register, participants must send a WhatsApp message to (624) 177-0960 with their chosen date, the runner’s name, their pet’s name or names, and breed size. Each registered person will receive one race bib number, regardless of the number of dogs participating.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required to ensure safety and organization at both venues. The event is being organized in coordination with Unidos por Ayudar (UXA Los Cabos – United to Help) and is supported by sponsors Barkerys, Larumbe Group and BMR.
Dr. Larumbe said the goal is to create spaces where families can interact in a responsible and meaningful way. He added that such events help revitalize public spaces, promote responsible pet ownership and strengthen community ties.
Organizers expect the race to be 5 kilometers or less and hope the inaugural event will become a lasting tradition in Los Cabos, promoting animal welfare and civic participation.
