La Paz’s beloved “Sticky Nights” concerts are back, lighting up the Malecón with music and dancing.
The nickname comes either from the infectious, feel-good atmosphere or from the humid summer air that leaves dancers gleaming after hours on their feet. Either way, joy is guaranteed.
This edition spotlights ska rock, also known as 2 Tone or ska revival, a high-energy blend of Jamaican ska, rocksteady, reggae, punk rock, and new wave. The genre, born in late-1970s Britain, is known for its rapid tempo, bold horn sections, and offbeat guitar riffs.
Headlining the night is Save Ferris, the Orange County ska-punk band best known for their 1997 cover of “Come on Eileen.” Formed in 1995, the band quickly built a following in Southern California’s underground scene, won a Grammy Showcase award for Best Unsigned Band, and signed with Epic Records. Their debut album, It Means Everything, arrived in 1997; by 1999 they had shifted toward pop-punk. After a hiatus, they returned in 2017 with the EP Checkered Past.
The free concert kicks off Friday, August 15, at 8 p.m. at the Malecón kiosk. Expect dancing, heat, and plenty of brass.
