This year, Los Cabos will continue to expand its number of Blue Flag beach certifications. Recently, the International Council approved three more sites in the tourist destination that met high-quality standards to ensure the best possible stay for beachgoers and protect the environment.
Rafael Álvarez, coordinator of ZOFEMAT (the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone), reported that three new Blue Flag certifications will be given to beaches in Los Cabos in June.
These include a beach near Rancho Leonero in La Ribera, the Corazón Beach in El Médano, and the iconic beach known as “La Playita” located east of San José del Cabo
Other beaches have already been identified that will be projected. This benefits everybody, locals and tourists, as it is protecting the environment, and certification serves that purpose: to establish first-world guidelines and, with that, grow the culture of environmental protection and begin to save what has been damaged for so many years.
Besides all the criteria these beaches must first meet, in recent years a new one has been added, which is the creation of ECO Schools. Through this one, ZOFEMAT is reaching out to elementary and secondary schools, and even community centers, to carry out environmental promotion work and thus comply with all the guidelines.
With these new certifications, Los Cabos will go from 24 to 27 certified beaches, of which 25 are operated by ZOFEMAT and two by hotel developments.
