Unprecedented Number of Whales Spotted in Cabo Pulmo

Great News for Conservation and Biodiversity

Around 50 gray whales have been reported in the waters of Cabo Pulmo National Park.

Local tour guides have documented these marine mammals in various areas of the park, including near coral reefs. Their presence is a positive sign of the park’s healthy marine ecosystems and provides a valuable opportunity for further research on marine biodiversity in the region.

Gray whales, known for their annual migration from North American waters to the lagoons of Baja California, have been observed with unusual frequency in this area. This suggests a potential expansion of their migratory route.

This marks the first time in the park’s history that such a significant number of these whales have been sighted, generating great interest among scientists and visitors alike.

The sighting also presents an opportunity to enhance conservation strategies for marine species and promote sustainable ecotourism in Cabo Pulmo.

Given the importance of this discovery, CONANP (The National Commission of Protected Natural Areas) recommends ongoing monitoring to study the whales’ behavior and ensure they are not impacted by human activities. Additionally, conservation measures will be reinforced, and visitors will be educated on the importance of protecting migratory species.

CONANP expresses gratitude to all those involved in protecting Cabo Pulmo National Park, particularly the accredited captains and guides who have documented these remarkable sightings. The organization remains committed to preserving biodiversity in the region.
