Well, we just dodged a bullet – although some of you might not feel so! Hurricane Norma wreaked havoc on many of you out there, dropping lots of rain but luckily it was nothing like Odile or John (havoc in Los Barriles)! Therefore, Asociación de Artes is happy to announce that the show will go on with the Holiday Art Show at our new location! This year, after outgrowing our old location, we have moved the event to Hotel Palmas de Cortez with all its space, close and plentiful parking, and a great central location right in the heart of Los Barriles! Presented by Asociación de Artes del Mar de Cortez (AdA), the show is Dec. 3, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
With all the space, we can fashion the show like a European Christmas market! The Holiday Art Show is one of the fun events that is great to attend either as a vendor, shopper, spectator or volunteer!
And, as always, it is a free event just a short drive from almost anywhere in the lower Baja!
The Holiday Art Show is just in time for your holiday shopping, and it has always been a great place for friends to meet up and visit, to shop, and then eat and relax with a cold one, while enjoying the friends that you have not seen through the summer months. We have some of the best artists in the Baja SUR who have been working all summer on new and original creations. And they are happy for this chance to get their work out in front of the public. We combine an art show, food from a few selected restaurants, a beer /wine/cocktail garden run by Hotel Palmas de Cortez and a large, covered garden seating area where you can visit with friends while enjoying a beverage and a meal. Sit, relax, and enjoy friends and the event.
We also use this opportunity to present one of our big fundraisers with our fantastic raffle baskets that have hundreds of dollars worth of certificates and goods you want and need to have: meals, activities and adventures, personal care certificates, shopping certificates and gift items - all things you would buy and at the beginning of the season!
You are going to buy the stuff anyway, so why not buy it from us and help the kids? All funds from the raffle and silent auction will go directly to purchase school and art supplies for 20 East Cape area schools. The tickets are only $100 pesos each and with our baskets worth hundreds of dollars, it’s a great bargain! It is a great cause, and worth everyone’s support! So, for sure you need to buy a ticket ... or 10!
Asociación de Artes, founded in 1993, is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in the East Cape. Originally formed to supply art supplies for the area schools, AdA has branched out from providing basic art supplies to expanding our mission to school materials, school repairs, Spanish language library books, sports equipment, and supporting Easter Sports and Summer School in Los Barriles. We have gone beyond our just school art supplies to doing “what we can to make the educational experience the best it can be for the students of the East Cape”. This has included AC units, ceiling fans, new classrooms, school maintenance repairs, paint for buildings, sports court lights and whatever is needed to improve the experience. Over the years, we have discovered that for good learning, you need more than just paper, crayons, and pencils. You need imagination to help deliver a great educational experience!
The 2023 - 2024 season is going to be another great one for Asociación de Artes, so mark your calendar of our events.
After the Holiday Art Show at Hotel Palmas de Cortez, we have our Artist Studio Tour of Los Barriles on Feb. 7 and close our festival season with the big one, the 29th Annual Festival de Artes at Hotel Palmas de Cortez in Los Barriles on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. Each of the events is done with the sole purpose of raising funds to carry out our mission. And in that process, if we can provide outlets for the local artists to sell their one-of-a-kind pieces, that is great! All the details you need on AdA and all our events are at www.eastcapearts.com
