The Fund for Protection of Natural Resources and the Los Cabos Restaurants association will begin a campaign to prevent the sale of marlin and dorado (mahi-mahi) in local restaurants. The reason? Both are species protected in Mexico within 50 nautical miles of shore for the exclusive use of sports fishing, as their numbers are decreasing. Mexico has become one of the world’s top sport fishing destinations. An average of 250 tournaments are held in the country each year, generating an estimated revenue of $2 million dollars a year. Half of that is produced in Los Cabos, which tourism fame was founded on the sport. If you see it on the menu, please do not order it.
