Celebrate Mother’s Day With a Cause. The Sarahuaro Foundation’s motto is “Raising Strong Children, One Mother at a Time”. They help children go to school with a full belly and teach money-making skills to impoverished women. They invite you to a special Mothers’ Day brunch with proceeds going to benefit disadvantaged women. Suggested donation: $125 for adults, $50 for children.
Save the Date! Artsy Fartsy Event Coming. On Sunday May 7, the Gallo Azul restaurant in Todos Santos will host a BAJA 100 mercado del arte (art market) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 20 artists will be exhibiting their paintings with food, wine, and live music by Ashbolt and friends. Do not miss it!
New $45 Million Hotel to Be Built in Cabo. The construction of the Hotel Misiones, with 2 eight-story buildings, 126 rooms, a restaurant, 2 pools and a pool bar, has been approved by the SEMARNAT, Mexico’s Ministry of the Environment and natural resources. The approval is conditional on the hotel having its own water resources, a sewage treatment plant and a system to water its green areas with treated water. The new hotel will be located between the Misiones condo development and The Cape Hotel.
Governor Asks Businesses for Help. In order to build an overpass at the Fonatur roundabout in San Jose del Cabo, Governor Victor Castro is passing the hat. The monies will come from federal, state and city governments but more is needed, so he asked the tourist business owners to pitch in some money. The Los Cabos Coordinating Council has not responded yet. Stay tuned.
Business People Willing to Pitch in Money. Julio Castillo, President of the Los Cabos Coordinating Council stated that his organization, which is formed by the most important business associations, has always been willing to participate in improving Los Cabos. The federal, state and city governments are currently working on ideas and propositions to alleviate vehicle traffic along the fourlane between Cabo and San Jose, and once the solutions are budgeted, everyone will pitch in money.
Pressure to Improve Toll Booths Mounting. The Los Cabos Coordinating Council, along with Southern Baja Governor Victor Castro and Los Cabos Mayor Oscar Leggs, are increasing the pressure on the federal government to improve service at the toll road booths. More booths are needed, as well as a faster payment process, since at rush hour the line of vehicles is over 1 kilometer long and over 30 minutes of wait. We are still waiting for the feds’ response.
President AMLO Helps Los Cabos. During his early morning speech today, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador promised to help us build more schools, economic homes and infrastructure. He already approved the dough to build a second desalination plant in Cabo San Lucas, which construction will begin soon.
New Golf Course to Pop Up in Cabo. Ernie Els, the South African professional golfer also known as “The Big Easy,” will design Los Cabos’ newest 18-hole signature golf course in a new 860-acre oceanfront resort community called OLEADA Pacific Living & Golf, located between Diamante and the Grand Solmar developments. There are also courses from Tiger Woods, Davis Love III and Greg Norman in the area.
President Promises to Fix Airport Long Lines. Once again, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) has promised to help us. This time, he has instructed the communications and transport minister to work with customs and immigration to reduce the wait time for tourists entering our gorgeous destination. Let’s see how long it takes for them to hire more personnel, that’s all that is needed. Sigh.
Fire Destroys Palm Trees in San Jose. The first fire of this year in Todos Santos burned 5 acres of palm trees. It started around 6:00 pm Monday and was extinguished by firefighters in a few hours. Unfortunately, the next morning while supervising the area, civil protection officials and firefighters found a charred human body which hasn’t been identified yet. ,
