And it will affect everybody
It doesn’t matter whether you drive your own car, are an Uber user, or you travel by bus. You will still have to leave home earlier starting next week because work on the Fonatur roundabout will kick off.
As a matter of fact, the companies that won the bid are already there, examining the area around it to install their machinery as well as surveying and establishing material banks. The SICT (The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation Center) spokesman detailed that the project would have an estimated duration of 12 to 14 months.
In addition to the overpass, the 20-million-dollar project includes implementing an autonomous traffic light system, pedestrian crossings, and bicycle lanes to improve urban mobility in this high-traffic area.
The SICT representative reiterated that the aim is to minimize traffic disruptions by keeping all four lanes of the Transpeninsular Highway operational during construction.
“We’re going to have four lanes enabled during the construction process. What we want to achieve is that on the section where work is being done at that time, a detour will be made to enable two lanes on the section where work is being done,” Governor Víctor Castro stated.
The project is also part of a comprehensive mobility plan to address the traffic problems that have plagued this area for several years.
