Fonatur Roundabout Overpass 46% Complete, Ahead of Schedule

Construction of the Fonatur Roundabout Overpass in San José del Cabo has reached 46% completion, 13% ahead of schedule. Despite heavy daily traffic, officials credit the rapid progress to efficient coordination and well-planned alternative routes.

“We’re currently at 46% completion, compared to the projected 33%, which is remarkable considering more than 62,000 vehicles still pass through this corridor every day,” said Roberto Flores, head of the department overseeing the project. “Alternative routes, such as the one behind Chedraui, have greatly helped ease congestion.”

The overpass, one of the municipality’s largest infrastructure projects, represents an investment of about 480 million pesos ($26 million USD). Completion is expected within 14 months, promising smoother, safer, and faster transit through one of San José del Cabo’s busiest intersections.

Long a notorious traffic bottleneck, the Fonatur roundabout has slowed both residents and tourists traveling along this key route. Once finished, the overpass is expected to streamline traffic, cut travel times, and improve mobility throughout the corridor connecting the tourist zone with other parts of Los Cabos.

Municipal authorities said meticulous planning and interagency coordination have been vital to maintaining steady progress while minimizing disruption for drivers.
