With 1,500 police and military personnel deployed, Baja California Sur has launched “Safe Summer Operation 2025” to protect tourists and residents during the peak travel season.
The effort, part of a national strategy, runs from July 14 to August 31, coinciding with school vacations. Authorities will boost surveillance across beaches, tourist hubs, and high-traffic areas throughout the state.
Governor Víctor Castro led the launch event, joined by officials from Civil Protection, the Mexican Army and Navy, the National Guard, the State and Municipal Police, the Attorney General’s Office, and the State Prosecutor’s Office. These agencies will coordinate efforts to monitor and respond to emergencies across Baja California Sur.
“Security is a daily task coordinated by the Security Committee with support from all armed forces,” said Castro. “This operation is essential as visitor numbers rise. We must protect both our people and our guests so everyone can enjoy their vacation, and Baja California Sur remains one of the safest places in the country.”
The governor also called on the public to act responsibly: avoid drinking and driving, respect traffic signs, and keep beaches and natural areas clean. “Pick up your trash and keep public spaces clean, for goodness’ sake,” he added.
Similar safety operations are underway in other parts of Mexico.
