Following multiple reports and complaints from people about traffic problems in the area, a new traffic management measure was implemented on Saturday, May 31st, coordinated by municipal authorities.
Roberto Flores, head of the General Directorate of Urban Development, announced the opening of a second lane to allow for slow but continuous traffic flow.
He detailed a dynamic traffic scheme, featuring a reversible center lane: in the morning, it will facilitate traffic from San José to San Lucas, while in the afternoon, it will switch direction to accommodate travel back from San Lucas to San José.
This strategy aims to alleviate the congestion that typically builds up during peak hours. Authorities have urged drivers to remain aware and responsible considering these changes.
Flores expressed optimism about the approach. “This will be part of a strategic management process throughout the construction once the bridges begin. We will need to implement similar maneuvers to prevent new bottlenecks and take firm measures to ensure agreements are respected, avoiding traffic chaos. Ideally, these protocols should be permanently established,” he stated.
He also highlighted the need for citizen awareness to avert mishaps on the road and reiterated the use of alternative routes that have been set up. Drivers are encouraged to act responsibly while traveling to prevent accidents.
In closing, Flores mentioned that Mayor Christian Agúndez has directed constant vigilance, ensuring that this traffic management remains in effect around the clock. He confirmed that the Mobility Technical Board would meet regularly to make inter-institutional decisions that aim to lessen impacts on the population.
