Palmilla and Santa Maria, The Two Squeaky-Clean Beaches

Palmilla Beach

Yup! Clean as a whistle

Los Cabos is positioned as a national benchmark for beach environmental quality, boasting the only two beaches in Mexico that hold the Blue Flag “A+” rating: Palmilla and Santa María.

This international recognition is not a small thing, as it attests to compliance with the highest standards in cleanliness, safety, environmental management, and environmental education.

The Blue Flag “A+” distinction guarantees that certified beaches offer a safe, clean, and sustainable environment for both visitors and residents.

This rating is granted after rigorous evaluation processes that consider 33 international criteria, grouped into areas such as water quality, services, safety, and environmental education.

The mentioned standards are even higher than the ones used for a regular Blue Flag.

Rafael Álvarez, head of ZOFEMAT (Municipal Coordination of the Federal Maritime Land Zone), reported that the audits required to validate these awards were recently successfully completed.

“It was a two-week audit process. Thanks to the continuous work of our team, we have ensured the continued existence of these important awards,” he emphasized.

Currently, the municipality has more than 20 certified beaches, reinforcing its commitment to responsible tourism and the conservation of the natural environment. Furthermore, this week, the review process for obtaining the “Platinum Beaches” certification began, conducted by the IMNC (Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification).
