With Resorts and Companies Becoming Engaged
Many companies among Los Cabos hospitality industry are encouraging guests and neighbors to participate in taking care of the environment and they are doing so by example.
The Four Seasons Resort is converting kitchen scraps into compost for its organic garden to comply with their zero-waste program.
At the same time, Montage Los Cabos has developed a revolutionary water conservation system that reduces consumption by 80%.
In Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, which has seen a remarkable 465% increase in marine life over the past decade as marine conservation is prioritized, the commitment of local tour operators and the practice of responsible diving have turned the area into what many environmentalists call a miracle. They use it as an example of what can be accomplished when an entire community participates.
Many farm-to-table restaurants are expanding organic farming practices while sourcing 90% of their seafood from local sustainable fisheries.
When it comes to wildlife conservation, the efforts include sea turtle protection programs from July to November, during which visitors can participate in nocturnal beach patrols alongside experts. Hotels along the tourist corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo have engaged in the Sea Turtle Protection Network to monitor beaches and safeguard nests and their eggs. They also hold baby turtle release events and invite their guests to participate, for a fee, which goes to the sea turtle protection program.
Through these diverse efforts incorporating luxury hospitality, community initiatives, and cultural heritage preservation, Los Cabos has earned the recognition as one of Mexico’s top sustainable tourism destinations.
