Four Lane Maintenance Will Begin in April… and Will Continue Until December

It will be a challenge, as it is the busiest highway in the state

Although the SICT (Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation) recently reported that 95% of routine maintenance on federal highways has been completed and that it is close to meeting its goal of rehabilitating over 44,000 kilometers nationwide, the situation on the Transpeninsular Highway remains unresolved.

In recent months, the deterioration of the Four Lane has become increasingly evident, leading to multiple complaints from drivers about the dangers of traveling on one of the busiest roads in Los Cabos.

The Director of the SICT (The federal entity responsible for communications and transport) in Baja California Sur announced that starting in April and continuing through December 2025, the federal agency will assume responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the mentioned Highway. Additionally, the entire asphalt surface will be replaced in certain areas of the road.

“With this, we guarantee that we will address any potholes that appear and maintain the roadway. Moreover, we have projects where there is more road damage; we refer to this as periodic maintenance. This isn’t just patching; it’s replacing the asphalt,” he said.

Another project expected to begin this year is the overpass at the Fonatur roundabout, with initial work starting in June
