There are several turtle sanctuaries in Cabo San Lucas including hotels, resorts, and other organizations. These sanctuaries protect sea turtles, educate the public, and release hatchlings into the ocean.
Environmental Education Day has been commemorated on January 26 since 1972, and currently has a special impact on our municipality.
"The goal is for children and teenagers to feel satisfaction and pride in being part of this environmental education policy. Today, it has a positive impact in Los Cabos, one of the first places to release turtles, as they have been reproducing on our coasts for decades with significant care," said Alberto Renteria, general secretary of the Los Cabos City Council
The Conservation and Protection Program for Sea Turtles in Los Cabos has been carried out by the staff of the General Directorate of Ecology and Environment in coordination with the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), who manage the timing, care and preservation of the species where nesting and spawning occur. The goal is to protect these turtles from predators and poachers alike. Also, many beachfront properties have developed sophisticated turtle protection initiatives that balance visitor experience with wildlife preservation. Everybody working together makes the emergence of baby turtles an unforgettable natural spectacle.
