It’s turtle time in San José del Cabo, and this year, these incredible creatures are making quite the splash. Olive Ridley sea turtles have taken over the shores, particularly around Las Mañanitas condos, and have been spotted nesting from La Ribera to Migriño. The sheer number of eggs this season is breaking records, setting the stage for a bountiful hatching season.
Local turtle enthusiasts are thrilled, with volunteers and residents alike keeping a close watch on the nests. These gentle giants, known for their synchronized nesting behavior, are drawing attention to the importance of conservation efforts in the region.
While the turtles themselves seem unaware of the commotion, they are certainly giving us something to celebrate. It’s a magical sight, seeing these ancient mariners dig their nests and lay eggs, continuing a cycle of life that has been happening for millions of years.
So, if you’re in the area, keep your eyes peeled for turtle nests and remember to give them plenty of space. After all, witnessing a sea turtle laying her eggs might just be the highlight of your Baja experience.

Note to self: Let’s hope the hatchlings fare well, and we’ll soon be saying hello to a whole new generation of sea turtles!
