Alejandra Torres, 28, Marketing Specialist. I thought this edition of the Olympics was amazing! The level of competition was so high, and it was inspiring to see athletes from all over the world giving their best despite the challenges of the past few years. I was particularly impressed by how well-organized everything was, considering the pandemic. As for Mexico, I think we did pretty well, although I wish we had won more medals. Our athletes put in a lot of hard work, and it was great to see them on the world stage, especially in sports like diving and boxing where we traditionally excel. It was also exciting to see some new faces representing us. Some people were disappointed with our overall performance, feeling we could have brought home more medals, but others were really proud of the effort and dedication our athletes showed. Personally, my favorite country to watch was Japan. Their athletes were incredible, especially in judo and gymnastics. They really showed their strength and skill in those disciplines, and it was a joy to watch them compete at home.
Rodrigo Méndez, 45, High School Teacher. This edition of the Olympics was really special, especially considering the challenges of the pandemic. I was impressed by the resilience and determination of the athletes who had to prepare under such difficult circumstances. It was a testament to their dedication and love for their sports. Mexico had some good moments, particularly in our strong sports like archery and synchronized swimming, but I think we could have done better in terms of medal count. We need more investment in our athletes and sports infrastructure to help them reach their full potential. There were a lot of discussions, with some people criticizing our performance, saying we should have won more medals, but I believe we should focus on supporting and encouraging our athletes. They worked hard, and that deserves recognition. My favorite country to watch was the United States, particularly in athletics and swimming. They always bring their A-game, and it’s incredible to see the level of talent and dedication in those events. The sheer dominance of their athletes in some disciplines was awe-inspiring.
Luisa Hernández, 33, Stay-at-Home Mom. I really enjoyed watching the Olympics this year, especially after everything we’ve been through with the pandemic and with my kids. It felt like a much-needed celebration of sports and the human spirit. The athletes were so inspiring, and it was great to have something positive to look forward to. Mexico did okay, and while I’m proud of our athletes, I do wish we had more support for them so they could perform even better. The talent is there, but sometimes it feels like they’re not given the resources they need to succeed at the highest level. On social media, I saw a lot of mixed opinions—some people were really proud of the effort, while others were disappointed that we didn’t bring home more medals. But what stood out to me was the sense of pride in our athletes, no matter the outcome. My favorite country to watch was Brazil, especially in soccer. They always bring so much passion and energy to the field, and it’s contagious. The gymnastics events were also incredible this year, particularly with athletes like Simone Biles showing such courage and resilience. It reminded me that the Olympics are about more than just winning; they’re about overcoming obstacles and giving your best. My kids all were so inspired we are looking into enrolling them in extracurricular activities that are Olympic sports and seeing them in the event one day.
Diego Flores, 22, University Student. The Olympics were awesome this year! I loved watching all the different sports, and it was great to see the athletes back in action. The energy was incredible, even without full stadiums, and you could feel the excitement through the screen. Mexico had some standout performances, like in weightlifting and taekwondo, but I think there’s room for improvement, especially in terms of investing in our athletes and sports programs. We have so much potential, but it often feels like our athletes aren’t given the tools they need to compete at the highest level. Some people were really supportive and proud, while others were more critical, saying we should have done better. But that’s normal with the Olympics; everyone has high expectations. My favorite country to watch was Japan, especially in skateboarding. It’s a new discipline, and they really dominated it, which was cool to see. I also loved watching the track events, so much speed and excitement! The way those athletes push their limits is just incredible. I think this edition of the Olympics will be remembered for a long time, not just because of the pandemic, but because of the amazing stories and performances we witnessed.
Martín Castillo, 50, Construction Worker. I thought the Olympics were very exciting, even though things were different. It was great to see athletes from all over coming together again, and you could see how much it meant to them to be there. The level of competition was really high, and it made for some unforgettable moments. Mexico did alright, but I think we have a lot of work to do if we want to be more competitive. We have talented athletes, but they need more support to reach their full potential. The internet was full of opinions, some people were proud of our athletes, others were more negative, but that’s to be expected. People always have high hopes during the Olympics, and when things don’t go as expected, there’s disappointment. My favorite country to watch was Italy, especially in track cycling. They were so fast and precise it was exciting to watch! I also enjoyed the soccer matches; they were intense and full of surprises. The Italians were especially impressive in their teamwork and strategy.
Andrea Rivera, 36, Journalist. This edition of the Olympics was unique and memorable, particularly because of the circumstances under which it was held but also the culture around Paris, the performances and the criticism around gender roles. The athletes’ performances were a testament to their dedication and perseverance, and it was fascinating to see how they adapted to the new challenges. Mexico had some bright spots, like in archery and weightlifting, but overall, I think we underperformed compared to what we’re capable of. It’s clear that we need more investment in sports and better support for our athletes if we want to be more competitive on the world stage. It’s always interesting to see how people’s opinions vary, and social media really amplifies that. My favorite country to watch was China, especially in diving and table tennis. They are just on another level in those sports, and their precision and skill are incredible. The gymnastics events also stood out to me—so much talent and grace on display. I think this Olympics will be remembered not just for the sporting achievements, but also for how it brought the world together in a time of uncertainty. It was a reminder of the power of sports to inspire and unite us.
