The Limey’s Are Coming! The Limey’s Are Coming!

I hope my Brit friends forgive us for this headline, but hey guys, you know I love ya! After many months of suspension of flights between the U.K. and Mexico, tourism may resume soon. British Airways has announced its return to Mexico with almost no restrictions. Should we welcome them with a bag of lemons? OMG, take it easy, I’m just kidding! The term is thought to have originated in the 1850s as lime-juicer, later shortened to “limey”, and originally used as a derogatory word for sailors in the British Royal Navy. Since the beginning of the 19th century, it had been the practice of the Royal Navy to add lemon juice to the sailors’ daily ration of grog (watered-down rum) to prevent Scurvy, a typical disease caused by a diet lacking in fruits and vegetables or foods fortified with vitamin C in long ocean trips. How about a Margarita instead?
