The 5th Annual La Paz Classic Car Show will return to the Malecón on Saturday, July 25, featuring approximately 250 vehicles displayed by members of the La Paz Classic Car Club. Under international standards, a vehicle is considered a classic if it is at least 30 years old.
Alfredo Rodríguez, president of the La Paz Classic Car Club, said the event’s main stage will be in front of the former Hotel Los Arcos, where live musical performances will take place throughout the day.
“We will be showcasing cars coming from Tecate, Mexicali, Ensenada, and throughout Baja California Sur,” Rodríguez said. “Our club accepts only classic vehicles. All makes are welcome if they meet the requirements. They cannot be custom-built, although some modifications are acceptable if at least 60% of the vehicle remains original.”

Celebrating Vehicles of All Conditions
Rodríguez said the event is designed to encourage owners to bring their vehicles regardless of their condition. “Once, a colleague brought a car without an engine and pushed it into the show,” he said. “The goal is to inspire people and give visitors the opportunity to learn about these vehicles, not just admire beautifully restored cars. We want this to be a fun, family-oriented event.”
He recalled that the oldest vehicle displayed last year was a 1928 Ford Model T. Maintaining classic cars in Baja California Sur can be especially challenging because replacement parts are often unavailable locally and must be imported. “My vehicle is a 1957 Ford,” Rodríguez said. “I had to order both the front and rear windshields from Chicago, while the gas tank came from Canada.”
He added that classic car enthusiasts traditionally relied on catalogs or traded parts with collectors in other regions. However, finding restoration parts became more difficult after a scrap metal buyer bought much of the available inventory in Baja California Sur.
Event Details and Community Support
Rodríguez invites the public to attend the event with their families and enjoy a day of classic automobiles, live entertainment, and a safe, alcohol-free environment.
Vehicle registration costs 400 pesos (about $23 USD). Admission to the car show is free, although reserved seating for the live performances will cost 300 pesos per chair.
The La Paz Classic Car Club’s exhibition is a nonprofit event, with proceeds helping police officers battling cancer. Security and emergency personnel will be on site, and organizers expect attendance of between 2,000 and 3,000 visitors.
