It’s just the beginning of summer, and already there are overloads in electrical power systems, as well as the water supply.
The maximum temperature in the capital reached 40 degrees during the afternoon, according to the CICESE (Ensenada Scientific Research and Higher Education Center). This high temperature contributes to increased energy use due to air conditioning units.
On the afternoon of June 30, power outages and voltage drops were reported affecting approximately 8,000 users. Several neighborhoods were affected with electrical failures reported in El Progreso, San Fernando, Santa Fe, Indeco, La Fuente, Los Olivos, Camino Real, Guerrero, Francisco Villa, Solidaridad, El Centenario, and Valle del Mezquite.
An unofficial version circulating among residents of the southern neighborhoods suggests that an explosion may have occurred at a CFE substation, specifically in a power transformer located in the Olas Altas neighborhood.
According to the official source, technical personnel arrived at the site and partially restored the service within a few minutes. CFE crews remain on-site to investigate the specific cause of the incident, so the information is ongoing.
As most wells were shut down, OOMSAPAS La Paz issued a notice on social media stating that due to general power failures outside and inside the city, most of the well batteries supplying water stopped functioning.
It also indicated that they are working to restore affected equipment and asked for users’ understanding.
The public is advised to take precautions against the possibility of further power outages and to plan for water storage, especially in areas already affected by the temporary suspension of service.
