Through the “My Rights, My Decision” Event
The Mexican Ministry of Health held the “My Rights, My Decision” event to promote awareness of legal abortion services available up to the 12th week of pregnancy in state health centers and hospitals, according to Eduardo Bastidas, who heads the initiative.
The event featured information booths offering sexual and reproductive health services, including the prevention and detection of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Attendees also received information on the free services provided through the Safe Abortion Program, available to women and people capable of becoming pregnant.
Bastidas said the event also shared details about violence prevention programs and services offered by the state’s nine mental health units. He noted that under the 2022 reform to the State Health Law, public health institutions are required to guarantee access to legal abortion services with respect, confidentiality, and dignity during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
To access the program, individuals must visit a participating medical unit (listed at www.ssbcs.gob.mx), present official identification and proof of address, and be accompanied by someone with valid ID. Questions can be directed to 612-183-2982.
Bastidas emphasized that the Safe Abortion Program ensures comprehensive care through medical follow-up, psychological support, and contraceptive counseling.
