A local bright mind in action
An engineer, originally from La Paz, is working on satellite development abroad. While not common to hear about people working in the aerospace industry, the state has talent that has managed to break into the industry beyond its borders.
Some professionals trained outside the state have managed to join international projects related to space technology, advanced engineering, and satellite development.
“Neemrod Hamburgo (Yes, he was born and raised in BCS, despite his name) is an aerospace engineer who has lived in Bulgaria for three years, where he collaborates with a European company specializing in the creation of satellites weighing between 1 and 100 kilograms.
His work focuses on the technical design and development of these devices, collaborating with universities, space agencies, and research centers in various countries.
This South Californian graduated from university and later completed a master’s degree, which allowed him to establish connections with companies in the aerospace sector.
He is now part of an international team involved in space projects where he contributes to missions that require precision, technical knowledge, and coordination between different institutions.
What challenges has the South Californian engineer faced outside of Mexico?
One of the main challenges he points out is the limited presence of the aerospace industry in Mexico, especially in areas such as component design and development.
Although there are manufacturing plants in the northern part of the country, growth in research and design remains limited. This situation has led many engineers to seek opportunities in other countries.
In addition to the professional challenges, he has also had to adapt to a new cultural environment and be away from his family; however, he remains focused on his career with plans that may include returning to the country and sharing his experience in the academic or professional fields. He is interested in passing on his knowledge to new generations who wish to follow a similar path.
He also believes it’s important to boost the country’s aerospace industry so more professionals can develop without having to leave.
His work demonstrates that Baja California Sur also has highly talented people in technology, making him one of three South Californians who are excelling outside the country.
