Different strokes for different folks
If you have that adventurous soul that requires trying unique types of activities, don’t rule out these.
There are little-known sites in the mountains and desert of Baja California Sur where hot water springs flow naturally.
These locations are surrounded by nature and offer a unique experience, far removed from typical beach tourism. El Chorro is located north of the Los Cabos airport, in a canyon where hot water flows into a large natural pool surrounded by rocks. To get there, you must drive approximately 22 kilometers from the airport, passing through small towns and dirt roads.
The entrance is controlled by “ejidatarios” (communal landowners), who keep the area clean. Here, the water is warm and clear, and the surroundings are peaceful, with easy trails for walking and enjoying the scenery.

Santa Rita is located near the town of San Jorge, about 15 minutes north of Agua Caliente, just over an hour from San José del Cabo. Santa Rita has small pools with hot springs in the middle of a canyon, surrounded by nature. Locals have long used these hot springs because they believe they help relax the body and maintain health. To get there, you must pass through Santiago and San Jorge, taking dirt roads with controlled access.
To best enjoy this place, go during the week, as it’s busier on weekends.
It’s also a good idea to bring food and water, as there are no stores nearby. If you leave early, you’ll have more time to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Since most of these sites don’t have restrooms, restaurants, or other amenities, it’s important to plan your visit well before you go.

Although there are no hotels or major tourist services in these places, they are part of the state’s natural landscape. Visiting these places seemsstraight from another planet. “Puerto de los Gatos” is a hidden spot on the coast of the municipality of Loreto, where the reddish rock formations and arid landscapes lead many travelers to compare it to the surface of Mars.
Located on the coast of the Sea of Cortez, this stunning spot offers stunning red and orange cliffs, narrow canyons, and rocks sculpted by wind and time. It’s not uncommon for tourists and photographers alike to comment, “It feels like you’re walking on another planet.”
“Puerto de los Gatos” is located about 25 kilometers north of Agua Verde, on the southern coast of Loreto. The distinctive red color of the rocks in Puerto de los Gatos is due to the presence of minerals such as iron oxide in the area’s sedimentary formations. Over millions of years, erosion caused by wind, water, and sun has sculpted the rocks into whimsical shapes and accentuated their hues, creating this unique appearance.

These types of formations are like those found in natural parks in the United States, such as Antelope Canyon or Death Valley, which have led many visitors on social media to describe the site as a “Martian landscape.”
This place is ideal for exploring the canyons and rock formations on foot, taking landscape photographs, especially at sunrise and sunset, when the colors intensify; snorkeling and relaxing on the nearby beaches of Agua Verde; kayaking along the coast; and observing the region’s flora and fauna.
Whichever you choose, it will be fun and interesting, as well as a different way to experience Baja California Sur.
