Benefiting businesses and tourists
La Paz continues working to improve its tourist image, and to this end, the municipal government has decided to make some streets strictly pedestrian-friendly, beginning with Zaragoza and Artesanos streets.
This transformation seeks to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, especially in areas with high traffic.
According to Mirena Quiroga, discussions have already been held with the owners and merchants of both streets, who have expressed their support for the project. “We have already spoken with the owners and businesses on these streets, and they agree with making them pedestrian-friendly,” he stated. However, before implementing the changes, repairs to sidewalks, pavements, and streetlights will be necessary.
In addition to these two streets, the municipal government will also work on “Callejón 21 de Agosto”, located next to the Sears store. This space will be rehabilitated to increase its capacity and ensure greater safety, especially at night. The project is part of the “Paths of Peace” program, which seeks to improve public spaces frequented by pedestrians.
The estimated investment for the rehabilitation of the alley is about $450,000 US. Work is expected to begin in the second half of the year, once federal funds are released.
The mayor also mentioned that funds from the state tourism infrastructure fund are being sought to rehabilitate three alleys in the downtown area. The goal is to present the projects to the corresponding council and obtain their approval, to keep the good work going in the historic center.
