Open Invitation to Fight for The People’s Paths

Because coastal roads are not for sale

For years they’ve been closed and privatized. But thanks to the power of social movements and community organizing, they called a victory by reopening them!

Since the beginning of this year, there has been a large social mobilization against the intention of a group of tourism developers and municipal authorities to declare the traditional coastal road to Cabo del Este obsolete and replace it with a paved boulevard far from the beach in the third update of the Urban Development Plan, which after social pressure and instructions from the Presidency of the Republic to authorities. Residents reopened the road last weekend after being blocked with stones and fences for more than a decade.

The reopening of the road has been celebrated by the community, especially by the indigenous Cabo residents, as a triumph in the defense of their historical heritage. This Saturday, they will walk along the road as a message that the will of the people prevailed over the economic interests and those of the municipal authorities.

One of them is the road to Punta Gorda, where many of us have once walked, jogged, or run.

With the motto “Running is resistance, the path belongs to the people,” the groups “Los Sube Cerros” and “Esos Locos BCS” invite all residents of Cabo to participate in a walk along the coastal path to Cabo del Este this Saturday, April 5th.

“You can run, walk, jog, or bike. The important thing is to be present.”

Bring water, good energy, and some munchies to share at the end.

Invite whoever you want! This is an act of community.

The meeting for those interested is at 5:10 a.m. in front of Buzzard’s Restaurant in downtown San José del Cabo.
