From The Tomato Patch

Los Cabos Tomatoes gathered at Daikoku Restaurant for a luncheon of unique taste sensations! A total of 62 members, 8 guests, and 4 new members came together to enjoy a delicious meal and learn all about the latest happenings with the Los Cabos Tomatoes.

Leslie Lampi masterfully led the meeting, bringing important updates and announcements to the table. The highlight of the day (drum roll please!) was information about the much-anticipated Salute to the Oscar Tunes Follies, scheduled for Thursday, March 27, at Cabo Jack’s. Leslie shared the exciting details and explained how attendees could secure their tickets. Of course, Marilyn Plank, our enthusiastic membership chair and ticket sales guru, was on hand to sell tickets, and several were snapped up during the meeting! Tickets are still available, so don’t miss out on what promises to be a fabulously fun time.

Adriana Kenlan also shared some news: the Los Cabos Writers Group (LCWG) is actively seeking new members! Whether you’re a seasoned writer or a complete beginner, LCWG welcomes all who have a passion for writing. They meet every two weeks, with the next session on March 13 at the Marina Sol Clubhouse from 3 to 5 PM. Bring your snacks, bring your wine, and most importantly, bring your love for storytelling. It’s bound to be a fun and inspiring time!

Christa Maurer shared information about the Club Polo Cabo, which is hosting its Spring Tournament from March 21 to 23. The final match on Sunday, March 23 at 2 PM is sure to be a spectacle you won’t want to miss. The polo club is located within the beautiful Rolling Hills community, just 20 minutes north of downtown. General admission tickets are only $10 US or for a more exclusive experience, you can reserve a spot at the viewing platform for $25 US. Cathy Watkins was there presenting the exciting new tell-all book, Gringo Gazette Follies, by Carrie Duncan. Available at The Bookworm near the Holiday Inn or on Amazon, this book promises to be an entertaining read for anyone looking for a good inside look. Cathy was also on hand to chat about the book and answer any questions. At only 500 pesos, it’s well worth the price!

Daikoku Restaurant in Cabo San Lucas provided us with a truly unforgettable dining experience, blending the best of Japanese cuisine with a welcoming atmosphere. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the warm and inviting decor, featuring traditional Japanese elements that set the stage for an exciting culinary adventure.

The menu was a feast of traditional eating elements, with a choice of fresh sushi, gyoza, sashimi, and other expertly crafted dishes that highlighted the best flavors of Japanese cooking. The staff made sure every detail was perfect, ensuring that we all had a fantastic time. It was an unforgettable luncheon filled with delicious food and the warm ambiance that Cabo San Lucas is known for!

To start, we were treated to a choice of gyoza or fresh salmon sashimi. The gyoza—steamed dumplings filled with beef, vegetables, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil—were a crowd favorite, with many of our Tomatoes raving about the rich, savory flavor. The sashimi was equally impressive, with thin slices of fresh salmon drizzled with soy sauce and orange juice, topped with rayu for an extra kick.

There were four main dish choices.  One was Yakimeshi, a fried rice with egg, seafood, and vegetables that was delicious. Another choice was tempura Yasai, a vegetarian option of green pepper, yellow pepper, sweet potato, onion, pumpkin, avocado, broccoli, cauliflower, mushroom and Kakigue, accompanied by fried rice or Gohan rice. It was appreciated by our vegetarian Tomatoes. The Teriyaki roll of rib eye on the outside, avocado and asparagus on the inside bathed in teriyaki sauce, was a tasty treat. The last selection was tempura Sakana, a fish battered with a little vegetable, green pepper, yellow pepper, sweet potato, onion, mushroom, pumpkin, mushroom and asparagus. The fish was extremely fresh and the batter was excellent.

The dessert was battered bananas with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center, bathed in cajeta, chocolate or strawberry jam. It was the perfect indulgent sweet ending to a fantastic meal.

Despite the length of the meeting, everyone left feeling satisfied—both with the food and with the wealth of information shared. We can’t wait to see you all at the next luncheon and on the red carpet for the Salute to the Oscar Tunes Follies!

Until then…
