Restaurants That Won’t Break The Bank

Enjoying Los Cabos isn’t just about the great food, it is also about the live entertainment available while you eat.  There are many restaurants in Los Cabos that feature live entertainment from one night to seven nights a week.  Here are some of the places we love to go to hear great music and get a good meal.

San Jose del Cabo – Alma de Mexico.

San Jose del Cabo – Alma de Mexico

Located at the corner of Alvaro Obregon and Vicente Guerrero at the north end of the Art District in San Jose del Cabo is a unique business that combines a restaurant, a market with small artisanal stands, live music, and a spa – Alma de Mexico.

We climbed the stairs to the second-floor location and were greeted by the hostess who led us to a table for four. The menu offers a full range of Mexican dishes — empanadas, quesadillas, tacos, fajitas, molcajete, enchiladas, as well as shrimp and beef specialties. We ordered guacamole to share to start, which was served in a large stone bowl with a crisp tostada. For main courses, Tracey selected the fajitas de pollo served with rice and beans, and Beth chose the mango shrimp served on rice with a side salad. Both dishes came with a basket of flour tortillas. I decided on the Baja fish tacos tempura style. The two tacos were loaded with lettuce, cabbage, shredded carrots and a sauce with just a little spice.

The flavor, portion size, and presentation were very good and the prices were quite reasonable. Karely was an excellent server and kept us in drinks throughout the evening.

However, the real thrill of the evening was the live entertainment — Kids Monsters. These five extremely talented siblings, ranging in age from 15 to 27 brought the house down. They demonstrated their ability to play their instruments, and their ability to engage the audience. This amazing band plays every Wednesday.

Overall, this was one of the best nights out that we have had in a while for both the entertainment, atmosphere, food and service.

Cabo San Lucas – Captain Tony’s

Cabo San Lucas – Captain Tony’s

For about 25 years we have been visiting Captain Tony’s on the marina when we are in Cabo San Lucas, usually for lunch. We have watched the size of the restaurant double but the friendly service and good food, along with the view of the boats coming in and out make it a great place to stop. Recently, when our daughter was in town and went out on a night dive, we decided that this was a great place to sit and wait for her to come back to the marina. We listened to some music beside the marina, watched her boat with Dive Cabo leave and then sat down at a table in the restaurant.  Captain Tony’s offers live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

The menu at Captain Tony’s is extensive with seafood, Mexican food, American food, pizza and more. We decided to start with guacamole prepared table side and enjoyed the presentation as all

the ingredients for a very good guacamole were combined. Another table was having the Caesar salad, also prepared table side. I ordered the spaghetti Alfredo served with garlic, mushrooms and onions and a side of garlic bread. Beth ordered the Baja battered shrimp tacos. When our hungry daughter got back, she ordered the Eggplant Parmesan with garlic bread. While we were waiting, we enjoyed live entertainment from a three-piece rock band as well as the jokes of our waiter Elias.

Everything was so good we decided to splurge and have a little dessert. We chose the brownie and vanilla ice cream. The night was great. We had a relaxing dinner and music, and our daughter loved her night scuba dive.

Todos Santos – Poke Loko

Todos Santos – Poke Loko

The north side of Todos Santos is growing. and several good restaurants have opened. The first restaurant on the strip is Poke Loko. Built by Claude Vogel and his family from France, it is run by Bastien Boucard, the chef, manager, and a family member. It has outdoor seating in a garden-like environment with upstairs dining as well. When entering the restaurant, the first thing you see is the wood-fired pizza oven with the fire blazing. Just to the right of the entrance is a stage where, during the high season, there is live music five days a week.

We went to Poke Loko to see Terra Nova perform (David Raitt, Richard Hastings and Tony Askins). But of course, it was dinner time so we enjoyed several of the offerings from the menu. We started off with some of their special French fries which are smothered in cheese and meat. Then, our table of four ordered three different pizzas: a Margherita pizza with sliced tomatoes, a mushroom pizza with gorgonzola cheese and a meat lover’s pizza. The pizza comes hot from the wood-fired oven and is delicious. Poke Loko’s menu is not limited to pizza. As the name suggests, there are several different Poke bowls, salads, sashimi, and great cocktails from the bar at the back of the restaurant.

Our experience with Poke Loko has always been excellent. The food is very good, the service excellent, the atmosphere great and the live music is among the best you can find in Todos Santos.
