Yes please, before drivers die from a heart attack!
The main route connecting Tijuana with Los Cabos is Federal Highway 1, also known as the Transpeninsular Highway, and La Paz is centrally located on the Baja California Peninsula, making it a crucial stop for travelers heading south. Unfortunately, this traffic contributes to serious congestion, particularly from heavy cargo trucks.
To tackle this issue, the mayor of La Paz, Milena Quiroga Romero, announced that they are coordinating with the SICT, the federal entity responsible for regulating commercial road traffic. The proposed project includes the La Paz Southern Bypass, a branch leading to La Paz Airport, and the La Paz-Pichilingue Bypass, which together span 53.03 kilometers(33 miles)
The La Paz Southern Bypass aims to link the southern and northern highways while avoiding the city center, including direct access to La Paz International Airport. The La Paz-Pichilingue Bypass would connect the southern highway to the port, facilitating better cargo transport.
While the exact cost and timeline for completion haven’t been disclosed, it’s noted that construction will proceed in stages. These bypasses promise essential relief to the heavy vehicle traffic plaguing the urban roads, ultimately enhancing mobility for everyone in La Paz.
It is so needed. There is so much traffic that is forced to drive through local communities to get to points south. This bypass is long overdue.
