Los Cabos Stands Out as the Only Mexican Destination in Routes Americas

Reaffirming Its Leadership in Air Connectivity

Los Cabos is the only Mexican destination with a stand at this important event, where strategic meetings were held with leading airlines such as American Airlines, Delta, and JetBlue, among others. The goal was to strengthen and expand air connectivity from Los Cabos to key markets in North America, Central America, and Europe.

The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) participated in the 18th edition of Routes Americas 2025, held from February 10 to 12 in Nassau & Paradise Island, Bahamas. This event is recognized as the leading forum for air route development across the American continent. Routes Americas is the only air service development forum uniting the Americas, bringing together senior decision-makers from the region.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director General of FITURCA, confirmed a new direct route with Volaris from Oakland to Los Cabos, set to begin operations on March 20, 2025. With daily flights, this route aims to attract 186 tourists per day, further strengthening travel from the West Coast of the United States.

FITURCA also held a strategic meeting with the leading luxury airline for transcontinental flights, Cóndor Flugdienst, to reinforce the Frankfurt-Los Cabos route. The current season of this route will conclude in April 2025, but operations will resume in November of the same year.

During Routes Americas, it was confirmed that American Airlines is expanding its connectivity to Los Cabos from ORD (Chicago O’Hare), DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth), and LAX (Los Angeles) airports, offering additional seating capacity for travelers. Discussions were also held with COPA, Iberia, and Emirates to explore potential expansions into new markets in Central America and the Middle East.

FITURCA’s participation in Routes Americas 2025 is part of its broader strategy to position Los Cabos as a premier tourist destination. The region offers a diverse range of luxury tourism experiences, including gastronomy, adventure, and wellness. These efforts reaffirm Los Cabos’ commitment to innovation and excellence in the tourism industry.

Currently, Los Cabos accounts for 85% of Baja California Sur’s air connectivity, with access to 60 original markets in four different countries. This makes it the third-largest recipient of international visitors in Mexico, highlighting the vital role of air connectivity in regional economic growth.

Los Cabos also ensures security, tranquility, and hospitality, holding Sharecare’s health security verification. Additionally, it is the first Mexican tourist destination to receive the “Queer Destinations: Committed Destination” award.
