For almost three decades, Buzzard’s Bar and Grill in La Laguna on the East Cape was one of the favorite stops for residents and visitors of the East Cape. Originally opened as a B & B and restaurant by Judy and Denny Jones, the property was sold to Paul Meredith of Ontario in 2010. Paul, an electrician by trade, said he had to learn a lot to run the B & B and restaurant. After several years of learning that the B & B was really making money, Paul focused on the restaurant and expanded it significantly over the years. Last year the land behind and beside Buzzard’s was sold to a developer that plans to build condominiums. Paul ultimately agreed to sell the property and it will be torn down. The last day was May 26. Paul and his wife, Julianne Warriner (of Matter of Taste and Chili and Lime Catering) have purchased five acres on the edge of the arroyo in Las Animas. Paul plans to retire while Juliane may create a wedding venue in the space. Paul and his staff at Buzzard’s Bar and Grill will be seriously missed on the East Cape.
