Uber Is Now Crossing The Border

Well, one way, they get you down, you’re on your own going north

Uber is now doing the San Diego to Tijuana dance. The service is called UberPassport. You get on their app on your phone, just like always, and then select the Passport option in the vehicle menu. This is where you say you are going to Mexico. Currently, Uber only goes one way, and that would be into Tijuana.

They also operate locally in and around Tijuana, and you can request UberEnglish and will be sent an English speaking driver who will squire you around Tijuana. You can also request an Uber ride back to the border where they kick you to the curb. From there, you have to walk back into the U.S., dragging your stuff.

Here’s how you do it:

1. Open the Uber app and request a ride from your current location in Tijuana.

2. Enter “TJ Border Pickup” as the drop-off destination in the app for the San Ysidro border crossing.

3. Walk into the U.S. using the pedestrian lane.

4. Upon your arrival on the U.S. side, request an Uber in San Diego to take you to your final destination.

UberPassport vehicles seat up to four passengers. In addition to the standard base fare of $4 and the milage rate, there is also a $20 border crossing fee.
