September 5. Thursday. 7:00 pm. Los Cabos Movie Club present. Un Lugar Llamado Chiapas (A place called Chiapas). 1998. Documentary. When the Zapatista National Liberation Army took over five towns and 500 ranches in southern Mexico in early 1989, the government deployed its troops and at least 145 people died in the ensuing battle. Filmmaker Nettie Wild traveled to the jungle canyons of southern Mexico to film the elusive and fragile life of the rebellion. Part of the Ambulatory Documentaries movie tour program. A family fights to reclaim a lost paradise, a waterfall once known as the "Mexican Niagara". Today, it’s poisonous waters destroy everything in their path. September 19. Thursday. 6:00 pm. Vagabond Movie Club present. Mexican Gangster. (2008). Action, adventure, drama. Artist on site: Tenoch Huerta. Mexican Gangster tells the story of Alfredo Ríos Galeana, the Mysterious Charro, the most memorable bank robber in Mexico’s history. Based on real events, The Mysterious Charro is remembered not only for his detailed plans and robberies without violence, but for his numerous leaks, robbed more than 80 banks in Mexico this in the 80’s and escaped four times from prison. September 19. Thursday. 8:30 pm. Vagabond Movie Club present. Bel Canto (2018). Drama, mystery, romance. Based on Ann Patchett's best-selling novel, Bel Canto is a dramatic love story that follows a famous soprano a hostage situation when she's invited to perform for a wealthy Japanese industrialist in South America. September 20. Friday. 8:00 pm. Memorias de Odile (Memories from Odile) Piano Concert by Fernanda Del Peón. Unique experience never done in Baja, a special Piano Concert remembers the five years of Odile hurricane. Winner of awards, The Silence of Others reveals the epic struggle of victims of Spain's 40-year dictatorship under General Franco, who continue to seek justice to this day. Filmed over six years, the film follows the survivors as they organize the groundbreaking 'Argentine Lawsuit' and fight a state-imposed amnesia of crimes against humanity, and explores a country still divided four decades into democracy. Seven years in the making, The Silence of Others is the second documentary feature by Emmy-winning filmmakers Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar (Made in L.A.).
