High school and college students are celebrated in all of Mexico.
Ithas its roots in a key event in the struggle for public education and university autonomy. Its origins date back to 1929, during a student conflict that marked a turning point in the country’s academic history as education in Mexico was heavily controlled by the government.
Since then, May 23rd has been set as Student Day to commemorate their huge success. Friday, May 30th has been chosen and the La Paz boardwalk will become the meeting point for a grand celebration of the youth of Southern California.
This free festival, that will kick off at 6 p.m., promises a night full of music, surprises, prizes, and local talent.
“This is an event that offers healthy fun, which is very important, but students will also feel represented and valued as students,” said the organizer, Jazmín Ruiz, who shared that they expect around a thousand people to attend.
Shortly after, the public will be able to participate in activities and raffles in collaboration with “Atlético La Paz” soccer players.
One of the most anticipated moments will come at 8 p.m., with the start of the freestyle battles, a competition that will culminate at 10 p.m. with the grand finale and its respective awards ceremony.
Between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m., the South Californian band “Baja Big Bang”will perform as one of the most anticipated acts, and to close out the night, at 11:00 p.m., DJ Rochin will take control of the turntables until midnight.
Ruiz also commented that they are working together with Civil Protection, Public Safety, and Public Services to ensure proper logistics, cleanliness of the space, and general order.
Although it is not yet a final decision, she announced that they are arranging for the installation of public restrooms for the convenience of attendees.
This is a party made by and for youth, where creativity, joy, and local talent are the stars.
