The 2025-2029 Master Development Plan for Los Cabos International Airport is advancing with an investment of nearly 7 billion pesos, aimed at implementing a single terminal by the end of the project. CEO of GAP (Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico), Raúl Revuelta, presented the developments and future projections.
Revuelta highlighted that the airport has experienced a growth of up to 40% since 2021, emphasizing the importance of securing land for runway expansion, including the acquisition of properties from the Ejido de San José.
The data indicated that Los Cabos International Airport welcomed 7.5 million passengers in 2024, with 2 million passengers in the first three months of 2025, reflecting a 0.3% increase from the previous year.
A key aspect of the plan is the 40% expansion of Terminal 2, designed to accommodate both domestic and international travelers. Revuelta explained that by 2028-2029, domestic flights would transition to this terminal, which will consolidate the operation into a single building.
The expansion of Terminal 2 includes three new boarding gates, 20 self-service check-in counters, 12 autonomous immigration checkpoints, and a 33% increase in the baggage claim area.
“In the long term, the airport’s growth is fully guaranteed so that we can grow alongside our passengers… we will relocate Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, which will be completed and expanded to handle both types of passengers (domestic and international),” he said.
As for Terminal 1, Revuelta mentioned it would be temporarily closed and could potentially reopen based on future growth.
The shift to a single terminal is slated for 2028-2029. Furthermore, plans to enhance the airport’s exterior roads are underway to avoid bottlenecks as passenger numbers increase, with a focus on projections for growth over the next decade.
