We tell you here that yes, and just how important it is

The Sustainable Tourism Advanced Research Center (STARC) of the prestigious Catholic Anáhuac University network, released a report on what tourism represents for our state. To begin with, it represents 37.6% of the state’s Gross Domestic Product.

It is the largest employer in the state, with 2 of each three formal jobs in tourism-related businesses. This translates to 19.5% of jobs being in the lodging and restaurant businesses in February 2024, of which 22.3% are young people.

Tourism has 48.7% of women employed, the largest number in the labor sector and their salaries are only 6.8% below that of men. The average salary in the state’s tourism industry is the highest in Mexico 579.93 pesos vs 578 national average (about US $30.20 vs. $30.10) for an 8-hour shift, plus tips. How’s that?
