Los Cabos ranks sixth in Mexico with more than 9,000 Airbnb listings, while La Paz ranks 13th, according to a national survey of short-term rental accommodations.

Baja California Sur stood out in the study, which placed Los Cabos and La Paz among the 20 municipalities with the highest number of Airbnb properties in the country, underscoring the growing popularity of vacation rentals in the state.

The findings come from research published by Quinto Elemento Lab, based on data from Inside Airbnb, an open-data project that tracks the platform’s impact around the world.

The report notes that Airbnb has offered incentives to residents in host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to list their properties as short-term rentals.

Los Cabos and La Paz Lead Growth

According to the data, Airbnb has expanded significantly in major tourist destinations. Los Cabos recorded 9,242 active Airbnb listings, placing it sixth nationwide. La Paz followed with 4,719 listings, ranking 13th.

Among the largest Airbnb operators in Mexico is Park Royal Los Cabos in San José del Cabo, which ranks among the country’s top 10 operators. The property offers 199 listings on the platform and describes itself as a five-year-old accommodation featuring an outdoor pool and furnished terrace.

El Pedregal Among Mexico’s Premium Markets

Los Cabos also ranked sixth nationally in a separate analysis of neighborhoods with the highest concentration of Airbnb properties. The area identified was El Pedregal.

Data from the study shows that the number of Airbnb listings in the area changed from 617 in 2020 to 338 in 2025. The report states that Airbnb properties accounted for 55% of accommodations during the period analyzed.

El Pedregal also ranked among the five most expensive Airbnb markets in Mexico, placing fifth with an average nightly rate of US$1,500.
