The meeting point is next Saturday, June 28 at 5:00 PM in Morelos Park. The walk will begin along Marqués de León Street to the boardwalk kiosk, also passing through the section that begins at Cuauhtémoc Park. The contingent will be accompanied by four floats and a stage program featuring at least 20 local artists, drag, singing, and dancing, in a show that will run from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
During the event, there will also be a reading of the manifesto, which will outline the current demands of the LGBTQ+ community and emphasize pending institutional issues.
The organization urges attendees to bring water, a fan, an umbrella, snacks, and sunscreen due to the intense heat. They also called for people to join the safe contingents and that alcoholic beverages will not be allowed, as this is a family event. Donated water bottles will be distributed for the event.
As part of the preparations, an LGBT+ bazaar was held Saturday, June 21, at La Chiva Café to raise funds for legal services, psychological care, and the operation of the “La Paz es Diversa” community center.
Although the event has a festive tone, a member of the community stressed that the underlying theme remains one of struggle. Among the problems currently facing LGBTQ+ people in Baja California Sur are discrimination in the healthcare system, difficulty rectifying official documents, and limited access to decent jobs.
